Got a Cold? Homeopathy Can Help Ease Your Symptoms
At this time of year when the "common cold" is all too familiar, homeopathic
remedies can be used to help ease symptoms and at the same time stimulate your
own immune system to help overcome the infection.
If you are prescribing for yourself, it is always a good idea
to treat your symptoms the moment you start to feel unwell and
this is especially true for rapidly evolving and debilitating conditions
such as colds and influenza. It's also worthwhile making sure that
you have a good selection of remedies on hand so that you can 'chase'
the symptoms of your cold as it evolves through various stages.
Many of the most effective remedies for the 'common cold' are best
taken within hours of your symptoms occurring. So don't wait! Reach
for a remedy at the very first signs of being unwell.
One of the most well know remedies for reliving the early symptoms
of a cold is Aconite. This is an invaluable remedy when it comes
to relieving inflammatory symptoms which come on suddenly and is
the first remedy to think of when you feel you are going down with
a cold after being exposed to cold winds, or after a shock or fright
of some sort. There are literally dozens of homeopathic remedies
that can help you move through the different stage of cold with
greater ease and speed and most of them can be found in a good
Homeopathic First Aid Kit.
Some of the other excellent remedies that are worth having to hand are Arsenicum
Album, Belladonna, Gelsemium, Nux Vomica, Natrum Mur and Pulsatilla. They all
have different characteristics and it's important when prescribing for yourself
to remember to match your symptoms as closely as possible to the picture of the
remedy.
Here are some general guidelines to help you select the best
remedy for yourself.
1. Select the remedy that most closely matches your symptoms.
2. For self treatment the it's best select the 30c potency which
is available from most pharmacies and in most Homeopathic First
Aid Kits.
-
Take one dose and wait for a response.
-
If improvement is noticed, then wait and let the remedy continue
to work.
-
If improvement slows, or has clearly stopped, then repeat the
dose.
3. If no response is seen within a 'reasonable amount of time'
(depending on the severity of your symptoms) then select the next
most closely matching remedy.
4. If in doubt, or if you find that you are susceptible to recurrent
infections then it's always a good idea to contact your Homeopath
for a consultation.
It's also a good idea to consult your homeopath
if you find that none of the remedies you have at home accurately
matches your symptoms, or if you have tried 3 or more remedies
without any improvement and of course if your symptoms are severe,
or getting significantly worse, you should always consult with
your local doctor.
In most case you will find that with the right
homeopathic remedy you can do much to shorten the severity and
duration of common ailments such as coughs and colds, as the medicines
gently stimulate your body's natural ability to recover.
